On Friday, November 6, 2020, Enid Swaby - Grandmother to Melias, Kevin and Chantel; Stepmom to Bobsie, Sister to Daphne and Aunt to many nieces and nephews – passed away peacefully in her sleep. It is comforting to believe that she went to join her family – husband Joselyn, daughter Elaine and Son Roy, who went on ahead. I would have loved to tell you her age, as is the norm when discussing the life of a person in this surrounding, however, that information was more “top secret” than even the government’s “most” top-secret information.
Aunt Enid was born to Ida Thomas and Robert Rowe somewhere in the 1920s in Prospect, St Elizabeth. She was the 2nd child of the eight children born to Ida Thomas. As a young woman, Aunt Enid migrated to England where met and married Joslyn Swaby, the love of her life. She and Uncle Josh parented three children, Barbara, Elaine and Roy while in England. She later moved with her family to New York where she lived and worked until she retired. Post retirement, she moved once again with her family to Sunrise, Florida.
If you knew my Aunt, then you would understand that she was tiny, yet she had the mental strength that even Goliath would fear. She had a steadfast love for her family. She was a fierce protector, “the Mother Hen” for her brothers and sisters – she was the tiniest among them, but there was never any doubt that she was the one in charge.
It is with great love that we wish you farewell Aunt. I know you were tired. I know you missed your family and I know that you were hurting at times. I know that God chose you to remain last, because you were the strongest and could persevere. I know you loved Melias more than yourself, but I know that you know that God will forever smile on him, keep him in his embrace and will forever protect him. It is now your time to rest. So Farewell Aunt, may you rest in peace.
