Mary Elizabeth (White) Allen

Mary Elizabeth White Allen was born in Columbia, SC, April 19th, 1957 to Benny and Mary Grace White. At 3 years of age her mother passed away which began her future as a compassionate caregiver. Even at a young age, she became a mini-nurse to her father, make sure he always took his medications. Another life long passion Mary inherited was her love of race cars.

Mary grew up in Baker, LA with her father, brothers, Benny Jr. & Sheldon, sister, Sharon “Tinky”, and step mother, Mildred. She had two children with her first husband, Mary Ellen and Philip. Family was always close to her heart her entire life.

Her career path followed from her early influences being automotive and co-owning her own body shop and ultimately leading to her true calling as a registered nurse. She received her RN degree from Pensacola Junior College and follow that with a Bachelors degree from the University of South Alabama.

Mary met the love of her life, Danny Allen, and married February 13th, 1993. They moved to Charlotte, NC where Mary became an Oncology Nurse at Charlotte Medical Center. Living in Charlotte also provided Mary with her best auto fix action: NASCAR.

Mary had a fun and loving personality. Her interests were always based from her heart. She was a proud Louisiana native. She loved Mardi Gras, Cajun cooking, LSU, the Saints, crawfish, swamp knees and being called a coon ass. She was an incredibly talented artist in cake baking and sewing. She always used her skills for family and friends. She could bake a wedding cake or sew her daughter’s prom dress. Other interests that were very Mary were, camping, vintage TV shows, such as Andy Griffith or Perry Mason, country music, and the color red.

Anyone who met Mary just met their best friend. She was always there for anyone who needed anything. She was the one we called when something was troubling us and we needed a shoulder. She was the one who would always find a way or the answer to life’s most complicated problems. Her kind compassion and unselfishness is a rarity that those who knew her will never be able to replace or forget.

Mary departed us on November, 9th, 2020. She joined her father, Benny White, mother, Mary Grace White, step mother, Mildred White and her sister Tinky Childress. She is survived by her husband, Danny Allen, children, Mary Ellen Chism and Philip Coté, brothers, Benny White Jr. and Sheldon White, grand children, Alayna, Benny and Asa.
