Robert Earl Youngs, Jr. passed away early morning on Saturday, November 14, 2020 in his 85th year at his home in Brandon, Mississippi. After three years of battling lung cancer, the Lord called him home peacefully with his family by his side.
Bob was a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be dearly missed by his wife and best friend of 64 years, Sally
Grace Youngs, and his children Robert Earl Youngs III (Sheida), Robin Kay Smith (David), and
Terri Grace Morehead (Charlie).
Family was an important part of Bob's life. He was a proud grandfather to Rachelle Carpenter
(Kevin), Robert Smith, Kayla Ervin (Chance), Chandler Morehead, Riley Youngs, Jake Jones
(Rebekah), Darbi Grace Wright (Wesley), Garrett Jones, and Finn Morehead. He was an even
prouder great-grandfather to Cohen Ervin, Eleanor Carpenter, Ruby Carpenter, and baby Wright expected May of 2021.
Bob and his twin brother, Richard Edward Youngs, were born on June 4, 1935 in Bay City,
Michigan to Robert Earl Youngs, Sr. and Leonna Youngs. They were followed by their younger sister, Karen Anne Lingenfelser (Chuck).
At age 17, Bob met his high school sweetheart, Sally, when she fell into his lap while riding a
Detroit D.S.R. bus. It all started with a simple "well hello there" and the returning of her dropped book. The rest is history.
Bob graduated from Cooley High School in 1955. Soon after, he began working at Sperry Vickers while attending night school for Aerospace Engineering. At age 21, Bob married Sally in Detroit,
Michigan on her 20th birthday, August 25, 1956. Bob also received an honorable discharge after serving 9 years in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Military Police Officer.
In 1976, Bob and his family moved to Brandon, Mississippi with 26 other families transferred from Sperry Vickers. After 35 years of service, Bob retired on his 55th birthday as a Sr. Designer from Eaton. Bob spent the rest of his life in Mississippi as a hardworking, dedicated, faithful, and loving man.
Following in his father's footsteps, Bob was also a member of the Elks Lodge for 47 years. The legacy is carried on through his son today. Bob was an avid golfer, hunter, musician, and archer.
He competed in many archery competitions with his wife Sally, and he received an award from
President Ford for Archery Sportsmanship and Training.
"Still I Rise" was a phrase Bob used daily that reminds us today how he lived out his faith even in the midst of cancer. He had a long-standing relationship with God and passed in comfort knowing Jesus Christ.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother. He is survived by his wife, sister and brother-in-law, 3 children, 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren (soon to be 4), and many nieces and nephews.
Bob will be forever remembered as a man of few words that loved his wife with all his heart and, of course, always wore his captain's hat. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in heaven watching over us.
A chapel service will take place at Parkway Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, Bob asked for donations to be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and Cheshire Abbey Animal Rescue.
