Garnet Marion Brown Johnson (93) of Ft. Collins passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020. She was born June 4, 1927 in Chicago, IL, daughter of Alexander and Marion Brown. Garnet graduated from White Plains High School in White Plains, NY in 1944 and later attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL where she was active in the Chapel Choir and where she met her future husband, Robert, in chemistry lab. They were joined in marriage on Aug. 30, 1947 in White Plains, NY. She also attended Syracuse University and later received her B. S. degree in Zoology from the University of Illinois at Urbana in 1951. She became a registered Medical Technologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and worked in various hospitals, clinics and laboratories in New York, Illinois, Indiana and Colorado.
Garnet was an active church member for many years where she taught Sunday School for Jr. High and adults. She was a Pioneer Girl leader and youth sponsor for high school age students along with her husband and sang with the church choir. Garnet volunteered with the Belle Bonfils Blood Bank for over 20 years with the CSU Women’s Association. She worked with the Volunteer Income Tax Association (VITA) program for many years and was a Cub Scout Den Mother for her two sons. Most important in her life were the years she volunteered for the American Cancer Society in its Reach For Recovery Program. She volunteered in her children’s schools as a teacher’s aide, tutored GED students and provided music for devotions in a local nursing home
Garnet especially loved the mountains, where she enjoyed camping, hiking, flowers and bird watching with her family. Her special loves were music, gardening and traveling with her husband.
She is survived by her three children, Robert B. Johnson, Jr. and his wife, Jacque and their four children, Rae, Kai, Britten and Rahn, Richard K. Johnson and his wife Linda and their three children Jenny (Will) Cullinan, Amy (Matt) Hemenway and Karen (Stephen) Maloney, Elizabeth A. Bobb and her husband Stuart, and their two children, Nathan and Lisa and by one great grandson, Milo Cullinan.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert B. Johnson, Sr.
