Josephine M. Chiantella passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 15th, 2020. She was the second of four daughters born to John and Josephine Gioe in Brooklyn, NY. She was a child during the Great Depression. At the beginning of World War II, she decided to become a nurse and entered St. Mary’s School of Nursing. She graduated in June of 1945 and worked in St. Mary’s Hospital in the Pediatric Ward. Shortly thereafter, she met the love of her life, Joseph Chiantella through mutual friends. They were married on July 4, 1951. Within the next 8 years, they had 5 children: Nathan, John, Carol, Joseph and Jeffrey. Josephine was a “stay at home mom” who loved cooking and baking. She was the typical 1950’s-1960’s housewife always wearing a dress or skirt and a frilly apron. Tragically after their 29th Anniversary, her husband, Joseph died of Pancreatic Cancer. It was her deep and abiding faith that always carried her through the tough times. For the next 40 years, she led our family with love and compassion. She cherished the time she had with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters, Frances and Elizabeth; her children, Nathan, John, Carol, Joseph and Jeffrey; their significant others; Jo-Anne, Maria, Arthur, Susan and Patty; her grandchildren, Joseph, Brian, Jaclyn, Beth, Morgan, Alexa, Catherine, and Allison; and her great-grandchildren, Sophia, Caitlin, John, Vincent, Matthew and Natalie. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity or to Calvary Hospital, 1740 Eastchester Road, Bronx, NY 10461.
