Addie Ruth Richards was a gifted woman who was kind-hearted and had more concern for others than herself. She was anointed with the spirit of service and had an impact on everyone she encountered. She would surprise you with her infamous pies, encourage you when you needed it the most and show up front & center with a smile adorning you with support. Her actions truly represented the godly woman she carried herself to be and her light will continue to illuminate her legacy.
Addie transitioned to her Heavenly Father on November 11, 2020 at the age of 78. She was born on March 24, 1942 to Phillip Glymph Sr. and Rebecca Douglas Glymph in Pomaria, South Carolina. Her father was a World War II veteran, and a Deacon at Fellowship Baptist Church. Her mother, a Deaconess, nurtured her love for God as a small child. Addie would faithfully attend Sunday school and sing in the choir. In 1959 she graduated Newberry High School and moved to Paterson, NJ. Shortly after, she met her late husband, Julian Rainey Richards. Julian and his charismatic ways swept Addie off her feet and they fell deeply in love. The two of them created the Richards legacy: daughter Valerie Richards Kea, sons Michael Jay Richards, Anthony Jerome Richards, Clifford Richards and daughter Beverly Richards Thomas.
While living in New Jersey, Addie was an active member and served under the leadership of Pastor Raymond Timms at Faith Chapel Reform Church in Paterson, NJ. She worked compassionately serving her patients for 43 years at Bergen Regional Hospital in Paramus, NJ.
Addie is survived by her sisters; Malissa Rogers (McKiver-deceased) of Bowie, MD and Gearline Thomas (David) of Blair, SC; daughter Valerie Richards Kea of Greenville, NC; three sons, Michael Jay Richards (Yeatie) of Crofton, MD, Anthony Jerome Richards (Fidelia) of Savannah, GA and Clifford Richards of Washington, D.C.; daughter Beverly Richards Thomas (James) of Bowie, MD and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Julian R. Richards and brother Phillip Glymph Jr.
