Barbara Belle (Davis) Wright was born on November 8, 1926 in Vancouver, Washington and went to be with her Heavenly Father on November 14, 2020 at the age of 94 years and 6 days in the comfort of her home. Barbara’s parents were Paul and Anna Marie (Chittester/Davis) Christian.
Barbara grew up in Raymond, Alberta Canada, as well as various locations in southwest Washington State. She moved to Portland after finishing school, where she met and married her “Papa Bear”, Fred. Together they made their home and raised their family in the Lents district of Southeast Portland. Barbara’s greatest occupation was being a homemaker, although she did spend some years working outside the home as an employee of Gerber Legendary Blades, and as a cook at John Marshall High School in Portland.
Fred and Barbara loved to garden, travel, camp, go clam digging, and can the produce they grew in their backyard. In their retirement, they were known to frequent Reno, Nevada and upstate California, and also liked to hop in the car and drive to California at a moment’s notice to eat at their favorite restaurant, The Samoa Cookhouse. Their grandchildren were one of their greatest joys, and they loved gathering with family, friends, and neighbors. They were members of The American Fuchsia Society, and displayed their prized fuchsias plants all throughout their backyard oasis. Barbara was also an amazing seamstress. After Fred’s passing, she spent many years creating quilts with her daughter, Kathie. Many were their adventures seeking perfect fabrics. As long as her hands would let her, it was not uncommon to find her at her sewing machine or cutting table. Barbara belonged to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and followed several callings within the church that included the Relief Society, the Geneology Library and various roles at the Portland Temple. In recent years she made several trips to Missouri to spend time with her granddaughter and family. She greatly enjoyed experiencing life with her great granddaughters.
Barbara also had an unprecedented love for animals, and many a cat and dog were taken in by her throughout her life. Once she was a widow, her home became a haven for displaced kitties, and at one point she shared her home with upwards of 16 of her feline friends- they were a great source of joy to her. At the time of her passing, her sweet kitty was right by her side.
In addition to Fred, Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and many special pets. She is survived by her brother Doug Christian and wife Jenean of Troutdale, Oregon; children Paul Wayne Davis and wife Bridget of Troutdale, Oregon; Kathie Marcoe and husband Justin of Gresham, Oregon; Gene Wright and wife Barb of Redmond, Oregon and Lucinda Christine “Chris” Fentress and husband, Stub of Portland; grandchildren Carrie McSorley and husband Randy of Portland, Oregon; Aaron Sauer and wife Kelly of King City, Oregon; Kelly Eutsler and husband Rob (her “handsome guy”) of Galena, Missouri; Kristi Sauer of Pilot Rock, Oregon; and Brianne Davis of Troutdale, Oregon; great-grandchildren Hailey Eutsler and Savanna Eutsler of Galena, Missouri; niece Rachel Ramsey and family. Other special family members include her beloved kitties Sherman and “Lil’ Man”.
Services will be held at Lincoln Memorial Chapel in Portland and Barbara will be laid to rest next to Fred in Willamette National Cemetery. Although the family would love to celebrate Barbara's beautiful life with extended family and friends, due to Covid restrictions, services will be held privately. Our loss is great, but there was a grand and loving reunion in Heaven upon her arrival. Of that we are certain.
