“Betty” was born on September 23, 1938 to John O’Neil and Teresa Lowe in Fall River, Massachusetts and is the youngest of six children. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, the love of her life and husband Jim, her brother John, and sisters Teresa, Mary and Marguerite. She leaves behind brother, William “Billy” O’Neil of Massachusetts. Betty graduated from St. Anne’s School of Nursing in Fall River in 1959 and continued to work as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts, Nyack, N.Y. and Texas until she retired from Tomball Regional Hospital. Many knew her as, “Nursery Betty”, as she cared for newborns for the span of her career of over 50 years.
Betty married James George Charbonneau on July 4, 1962 in Fall River, Mass. and together they have two daughters, Elizabeth Anne Fisher, of Lufkin, Texas and Mary Catherine Jones and son-in-law Michael of Cypress, Texas. Betty has nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and one on the way, all of whom brought her much joy. She also had many nieces and nephews. Spending time with her family was her greatest love! Betty and Jim, along with their daughters, were original parishioners at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church and were very involved in various ministries over the years. They were especially proud to be involved in the beginnings of the World Wide Marriage Encounter movement. Her family and friends will miss Betty greatly, but we know she is now in heaven with her beloved Jim. Theirs was an epic love story filled with happiness. Betty so loved her “Jimmy” that she passed peacefully on the four-year anniversary of his death to join him with our Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven.
Arrangements are under the direction of Brookside Funeral Home-Cypress Creek, Houston, Texas.
