Jimmie Ray Gower was born on June 17th, 1946 in Tahlequah, OK, the son of Euel Lawson and Ruby Nell (Railey) Gower. He grew up with two brothers, Earl and Doris and one sister, Dorothy. He attended school and then served his country in the United States Army. On July 31st, 1970, he walked down the aisle of Hall Church and married his best friend, Bertie Marlene Webster. Together they shared fifty years of life, life adventures, and misfortune, but always together. He was the proud father of four children, two sons and two daughters, Jimmy, Colin, Lisa and Falen. Jim worked his entire lifetime serving the community he loved. He was the County Commissioner for District 3 for over 16 years. There were few projects he didn’t help to start , working to start Help-In-Crisis, Solid Waste Management, Cookson Hills, and worked tirelessly to get the Sales Tax passed to fund the fire departments and Ki-Bois, just to name a few. He sat on multiple boards, always seeking to improve the life for his neighbors and friends. He was a strong supporter of FFA and Cookson TACO. When he had five minutes to rest, you could find him at home, in the outdoors, taking care of the property, chasing his grandkids, or getting ready to go do a little coon hunting or maybe camping under the stars. Jim went to his Eternal Home on Saturday, November 14th, 2020 in Tahlequah, OK. He was 74 years old and will be greatly missed by all those he has helped throughout the many years of service.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, his Mother and Father, and his sister, Dorothy Box.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Bertie of the home, and his children, Jimmy Gower and fiancé Jennifer Watkins of Tahlequah, OK, Colin Girdner and wife Christine of Barber, OK, Lisa Trammel and husband Michael of Park Hill, OK, and Falen Wagnon and husband Cuco of Holdenville, OK. He leaves his two brothers, Earl Gower of Park Hill, OK and Doris Gower and wife Melissa of Tahlequah, OK. He will live on in eight grandchildren, Tucker and Wade of Columbia, MO, Lane, Cash, Alexis and Makyla of Park Hill, OK, and Katelyn and Cody Girdner of Barber, OK. He also leaves his great Grandchildren, Justus, Kylah. Cruz, and Ruby of Holdenville, and Kayden, Gage, Korbin, and Leddy all of Park Hill, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
