Ret. Trooper Michael Lee Swope, 55, of Oklahoma City, passed away at his home on November 14, 2020. Mike was born January 30, 1965 in Clinton, Oklahoma to Delbert and Evelyn Swope. The family moved to Newkirk where Mike went to school and received a rodeo scholarship. He attended college in Alva and began steer wrestling in 2006.
While working for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Mike received a Resolution commending him as 2004 Highway Users Federation Heroism Award recipient from the Oklahoma State Senate for continual service in protecting the lives of fellow officers and the citizens of Oklahoma. Mike was also a member of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Tac Team.
In 1991, Mike was preceded in death by his father Delbert L. Swope. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Evelyn Swope; brother Delbert L. Swope, II of OKC; his fur baby, Lizzy who went everywhere with him. Mike also had a tight group of friends who will greatly miss him.
Visitation will be at Chapel Hill Funeral Home on Monday, November 23, 2020 from 4 pm to 8 pm. A celebration of Mike’s life will be 2 pm, Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at an outdoor service at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in the Commonwealth Estates Garden, 8701 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK 73162
We will be social distancing and wearing a mask is required to keep those in attendance safe but those who feel more comfortable staying home can watch via live stream.
