Albert E. Bowles, 87, a long-time Dayton resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 in Centerville, OH. Albert was born on April 27, 1933 to Fonna Mae Gardner and Earl A. Bowles in Addison, Ohio. After attending and playing football at Mayfield High School in Mayfield, Ohio, he enlisted in the Army. In 1956, he married the lovely and talented Betty Rae Warner. For many years, Albert operated the Hush Puppy Casual Corner shoe store at Fourth and Ludlow in downtown Dayton. He supplied shoes for area high school marching bands, ordering Hush Puppies by the case and personally visiting schools for shoe fittings. Albert was also an accomplished artist and his great joy in his early years was flying airplanes. Not a fan of crowds, he frequently could be found playing his harmonica in a corner entertaining himself for hours and He was a member of the Grand Council Royal and Select Masons of Ohio, Matchett Council 91. Albert is predeceased by his parents, his wife, his sisters Luella Dunaway, and Joan Hickling. He is survived by his daughter Kimberly (Ridge) Holdridge of Orlando, FL; brother and sister-in-law Billy and Sally Bowles of Chardon, OH. The family extends our deepest gratitude to the staff at Heartland of Centerville for keeping Albert supplied with all his favorites! Dr. Pepper, Sunshine Oreos, and pretzels.
