Ronald Edward Hoffer, 71, of Concan Texas, passed away on Monday, November 16, 2020, from complications of pancreatic cancer. He was born October 18, 1949, in Robstown, TX. This was the third battle with cancer in his life. He is survived by the love of his life, Idanell Hoffer. They were married May 22, 1981 at their home in Corpus Christi, TX. Pop adored his wife and did everything he could to make sure she was happy and well taken care of. They went on several cruises a year to exotic places all around the world, including flying to Spain to ride a cruise ship across the Atlantic to New York City. One of his favorite things to do was dress up in a suit and enjoy a 5 star dinner including escargot with his bride of almost 40 years. After retiring to their own personal paradise in Concan, he loved to feed his deer and birds in the yard.
Ron started his career in communications before the age of 20. He started with a company called Southwestern Bell as a line repairman, and that company evolved into AT&T. He continued to work for the same company for almost 40 years, when he retired in 2009. His hard work and dedication influenced all around him. In addition to his professional career, he spent countless years coaching sports. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, neighbor, and coach. He poured his heart and soul into all of those relationships and never expected anything in return.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Mabel Hoffer, his brothers Bill and Roy Hoffer, and Sister Joyce Martin. He is survived by his adoring wife, Nell Hoffer. He is also survived by his older brother Wayne (Mildred) Hoffer. Pop leaves behind his son Kevin (Whitney) Hoffer, son Michael (Sandra) Hoffer, son John (Bethany) Hoffer, daughter Cindy (Steve) Cox, son Jeff Ganem, and son Lawrence Ganem Jr. Pop also leaves behind grandchildren Amber (Alex) Cox, Haley Cox, Nicolas Hoffer, Larissa Hoffer, Sophia Hoffer, Lilly Hoffer, Gabriel Hoffer, Ethan Keeler, Sawyer Hoffer, and Reid Hoffer.
Pop loved all of his kids very much. He was always the first one to offer up help any time it was needed. No matter what it was or what one of the kids needed, Pop was always there. He was the biggest supporter of his kids too. From traveling around the state watching Kevin play sports, to Michael and John and Cindy going to band camps and competitions, to Larry playing in the family band, Jeff drag racing, and years of hunting adventures with Steve. He continued his love and commitment with all of their spouses and grandchildren. He always wanted to help and support his children no matter the circumstances. Pop also spent every moment he could with his grandkids. One of his favorite traditions was putting up his Christmas decorations in the yard with his family. His grandkids adored him and the feeling was mutual. There was no distance too far to spend time with and celebrate his family.
