Susan Russell McClusky, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, November 17th, 2020. Susan was born in Toronto, Canada and moved to Homewood, AL in 1952. She attended Hall Kent Elementary School, and graduated from Shades Valley High School where she was a majorette. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from UAB in Literature and began her career with Homewood City Schools in 1985. Susan was a staple in the Hall Kent Library for over 35 years, before retiring this past August. She was a light to every child that she encountered, and helped countless students in their journey to become lifelong readers. Her favorite pastimes included smocking dresses and gowns, reading in her favorite chair, working with the Community Kitchens organization at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, and being with her animals. She was an avid dog show supporter, and loved so many pets in her lifetime. Susan's biggest passion was her grandkids. She loved them so deeply, and wanted to spend every waking minute watching them grow up, play sports, and just enjoy life. They were a blessing to her, and she was a blessing to them. Susan is survived by her son, Patrick McClusky (Leah), and by her three grandchildren; Braxton, Brittan, and Leighton. She was preceded in death by her father, Alex Russell, and by her mother, Violet May Russell. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24th, at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. A private ceremony will be held later for family at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Memorials honoring the life of Susan McClusky may be directed to the Homewood City Schools (for the Hall Kent Library), or to the Birmingham Humane Society. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel located at 1800 Oxmoor Road in Homewood.
