Mr. Giles was born on December 12, 1923 in Reidsville, North Carolina to his parents, Marvin S. Giles, Sr. and Mary Bryson. He was also a resident of Old Fort and Greensboro, North Carolina. However, he spent the majority of his life in the Detroit, Michigan area.
Mr. Giles was very much interested in "larger than life" literature- pulp fiction, comic strips, comic books and the like. He authored two novels. Mr. Giles was known for having the largest privately held comic strip collection in the world. He was one founder/early organizers of "comic conventions"- which later developed in modern day into large gatherings such as the San Diego Comic Con.
Mr. Giles is preceded in death by his loving wife Burda Giles. Mr. Giles is survived by his dear friend of 45 years, Rene' Schovon, and her family: Michael "Mick" Naimy, Michael R. Naimy Esq. (Kristen Skladd), Tyler Naimy, and Colin (Jenny) Naimy and many, many other close friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday November 24th at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel in Greensboro, NC with interment to follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
