Aunt Rose, I truly enjoyed playing games with you, laughing and trying to learn some German. You were truly a remarkable woman we are all lucky to have had you apart of our lives. Love you so much <3

Dear Tante Rosel,

When your mother Maria and I visited you in Virginia in 1986 you generously invited us into your life and american family and made us feel very much at home, we had the greatest time together. I'll always remember the funny Bingo evening, exciting trips with Linda & Ernie and the way you talked to Onkel Ernst in German. I was only 14 years old at the time, but it'll always be a trip I love to look back on, as well as your many visits in Germany.

Me and my family knew you as a confident, quick-witted woman, who cared a lot for her big, wide-spread family, that she held together like a rock in good and bad times. We remember your one-of-a-kind humour and witty comebacks. Spending time with you always was such a great joy. Thank you!

We wish your family and those who were and are with you on this last journey all the strength it requires. We are thinking of them from afar and hope that without you as a bridge between the continents we will not lose touch.

We will always hold you in dear memory.

When I was a teenager I spent many summers with Rose and the whole family. Rose and I were close to each other. She was always caring, she treated me as her own grandchild. Rose always insisted on preparing German food while I was there. I think I ate more potato salad in her house than I ever did in Germany. 

Rose was a very strong, honest person that I looked up to with respect. I loved her direct way of saying things and her wonderful humor. I learned a lot of helpful American expressions which probably no one else would have taught me. We had so much fun together. I enjoyed spending time with Rose. I will never forget the many trips from Virginia to Florida, the Yahtzee evenings together with Ernesto and the personal introduction to bingo nights and bowling events.

Rose, you will always be in my heart. I am grateful that we had so many joint moments that I will keep as great memories.

I am so grateful to have known Aunt Rose all my life. I will always cherish the times at my Omi’s house with Aunt Rose there visiting and having our entire family over for a BBQ in the summer. I always loved seeing her and how happy my Omi would be each time she was able to spend time with her. I will never forget our beautiful Aunt Rose and the laughs and love she gave. I love you and will remember you forever.

From my earliest memories-my Mom was always solid as a Rock! In good times & bad, she was always there for me & never wavered.

It is often said you can judge a man by the mother who raised him, I am so glad I am that man. She taught me right from wrong not with an Iron fist but rather a wooden spoon with a hole in it!

She was lightning fast with the dreaded wooded spoon & I learned quickly to do right or run fast to avoid a donut hole on my ass!!LOL!

Thank-you for giving me the right direction to take in life & instilling the best values in me to carry me through life. 

You taught me unconditional love, kindness, & gave me the right tools to get through life, for which I am eternally grateful for to this day

God looked around his garden.

He knew that you were in pain.

My sisters and I grew up very poor but we were happy,  Our mom tried her best working hard to take care of us when our dad had to go to war and was in a Russian Prison until 1947.  Our dad passed away very young at 46 years old in an accident.  

 Rose was a little michevious , one time she climbed on a kitchen cabinet where our mom was hiding the Christmas cookies and the whole top came tumbling down.  We were always close, I will miss not be able to call her anymore and ask her how to cook the German dishes.  I would always forget.  We visited each other often even though we were mostly unfortunately too far apart.  In the later years we would always stop to see them on our way from New York to Florida.  The last time we stopped Rose immediately  went for the wine glasses and poured us both a glass of Liebfaumilch wine.  She was always smiling and upbeat even when her road was rough.  We made many trips to Germany together to see our sister Erna and family over the years.  Those memories I will cherish forever.  In 2015 which turned out to be the last time she suffered a stroke and I was glad to be with her to give my support. 

 I will miss her very much.  I know she is among the most beautiful angels.  My sister I will always keep you in my heart.

Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart. That small something for me is all 5' or less of Rose Paiva or Mom as I was privileged to call her over the past 20 years.  
Undoubtedly, I will miss her dearly & daily,  especially on our respective birthday's for which we would call each other & screech out the "Happy Birthday" song , it soon became our only little tradition over the years. She made sure the tradition did not end, even if it meant  tracking me down @ work or waiting on eternal hold . 

We both knew neither of us could really sing but we didn't care, it was all the laughter & love afterwards that made it all worth the "ear pain".!! I soon began to look forward to it & it was double the fun when it was in person. It came topped with one of Ernie's favorites & soon mine-a homemade from scratch delicious Butter Cream Cake with a glass of German wine "Liebfraumilch"!!

Although the song has ended,  the melody will forever linger on in my heart every February 18th & January 4th and every day in between. Missing you dearly.

 Rest in Peace Mom until we meet again!

Aunt Rose was a bundle of light and joy.  Her smile and sparkly eyes will never be forgotten.  I remember a day early on dating Philip when she was at her sister Trudas house  and they were cooking in the kitchen, both of them singing and cooking us a delicious dinner. The meal was vegetables cooked to perfection, delicious gravy and a beef.  A nice GERMAN meal from the German girls.  As we sat and ate all together dessert time rolled around (always our favorite time) ! SWEETS and Aunt Rose's sometimes dirty jokes.  No one could tell a joke better than her with her beautiful accent.  We love you Aunt Rose and will never forget you , your beautiful sparkly eyes and smile and funny sometimes... dirty jokes.

I remember when she shared her recipe with me how to make her German and American potato salad I still to this day make it that way. She will truly be missed and my condolences to the family.

I have known the Paivas almost all of  my adult life. I love them all.  Rose was special. She loved everyone, she would feed you forever, she loved the Dallas Cowboys and she would not hesitate to tell you just how she felt - all in good fun. I was at Dolores’ one time and I had on pink shorts and a pink and white crop top that had hanging tassel like things at the bottom of it. She looked at me and asked me why I was wearing rags. I died laughing. I will miss her. Her children are crushed. Life is never easy. We just have to do the best we can, every day with love, kindness, forgiveness and a humble heart knowing tomorrow is a new day.
