Ada Louise Barkley was born June 12, 1926 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to Raymond and Mabel Wells. They moved to Little Rock, Arkansas soon after. They lived most of the years on Maple Street and Ada had many “Maple Street Memories.” Many members of the Church of Christ lived close by. Ada soon became aware of the church and the Bible. Her grandmother Brinningstall died in their home on Maple. At her funeral they sang “What A Friend We Have in Jesus.” This is one of Ada’s favorite songs, she loved to sing all the old hymns. She is preceded in death by her beloved Howard, who she met and married in N.L.R., Arkansas in 1942. They were married 63 years when Howard passed away. Their home was blessed with four children, Ron, Candice, Sharon and Grady. They have 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren (and counting). Many friends and loved ones both in Forgan, OK. (where they lived and raised their children) and in San Angelo where they lived since 1977. Ada had four sisters and a foster brother. She was preceded in death by her husband, sisters, Rosa and Frances and brother, Lester. Ada worked on the church bulletin and taught children and Ladies Class in Forgan. She also taught the Ladies Class at North Chadbourne Church of Christ where she and Howard were members. She also spent four of five summers being a counselor at Boiling Springs Christian Youth Camp at Woodward, OK. She is survived by her children, Ron Barkley of Kerrville, Candice Randall and husband, Rick of Vici, OK, Grady Barkley and wife, Erma on Converse, TX. and Sharon Truhlar of Virginia Beach, VA.; 14 grandchildren along with mentored grandchildren, Tammy and Nick and their mother, Sandi and stepfather, Brian Craig and foster daughter, April of Lubbock along with many friends in San Angelo, Oklahoma and Kansas. Sisters, Elizabeth Lane and husband, Bob of N.O., LA. and Emma Rabe of Woodward, OK she also leaves behind a good many nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond of. A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2020 in the chapel of Johnson’s Funeral Home with interment to follow in Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
