Otis and Stillwater—Lawrence “Sam” Stormann, 95, died peacefully with family by his side November 29, 2020 at a Bangor health care facility. He was born July 6, 1925 in Old Town the son of Merle L. and Myrtie M. (Dow) Stormann.
Sam was a 1943 graduate of Old Town High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Pacific Campaign as a member of the Seabees. Following his discharge from active duty, he proudly served over 30 years with MCB-27 Navy Seabees Bangor, Maine and his unit was activated during the Viet Nam War. He was a heavy equipment operator working at HE Sargent retiring after 40 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ellsworth Masonic Lodge.
He resided in Otis for many years in the log cabin he built. He was always a hard worker and enjoyed puttering around his property and putting up 10 cords of wood annually. Sam was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. During retirement, he delivered Meals for Me in Otis, and enjoyed camping and traveling with his wife Naomi. He loved the companionship of his poodles Dominic and Bunky and was always up for a Cribbage Game if anyone was willing to play with him.
He is survived by four children Alan Stormann and his wife Rhonda, Kathy Comstock, Roxanne Morrison and her husband Tim, and Robert Stormann and his wife Pauline; eight step-children Marilyn Garnett, Amaryllis Anderson and her significant other Jim Hardison, Alice Poulin, Lorilee Ross, Colwell Severance and his wife Debra, Lorenzo Severance and his wife Roree, Joseph Severence, Ryan Severence and his significant other Darlene Gifford; two borthers-in-law Dwight Tate and his wife Joan and Harold Tate and his wife Eleanor; two sisters-in-law Brenda Scribner and her husband Roy and Loretta Mitchell; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Naomi in 2000, sisters Corrine Burns, Florice “Toots” Mishou, Phyllis Darling, brothers Clyde “Chuck” Stormann, Eugene “Gene” Stormann, Merle “Billy” Stormann Jr., and an infant brother Kenneth Stormann.
The family wishes to extend a warm heart felt thank you to the director and staff at Westgate Manor.
Graveside services at Greenwood Cemetery with military honors will be announced in the spring.
