James J. McCabe

James J. McCabe, age 94, of Warren, passed away December 21, 2020. Married to Lillian A. (Bliss) McCabe who predeceased him in 1983 after 37 years of marriage. A Warren resident since 1961, employed by American Tourister from 1948 until retirement in 1992 he was a Navy veteran enlisting in July 1944 right after High School Graduation in PA., he was stationed in Quonset Point, RI as a Seabee. He met his wife Lillian in a movie theatre in Providence and they were married at ages 19 and 18.

After Quonset Point he transferred to Port Hueneme, CA and later found himself on Okinawa, after the Battle doing a construction project when, who walks up to him but his older brother, Matt. When asked how his brother knew that he was on Okinawa, he had no idea! James transferred to a fresh water tanker, the Oklawaha and did mail runs to various bases around the Pacific including Japan and China, then transferred to a Destroyer Escort where he was a Boiler Maker. One of the missions that he spoke of was a Goodwill tour to the Middle East where they sailed 100 miles up the Euphrates River in Iraq.

He is survived by his sister Elizabeth Hawk, son, Mike McCabe (Kate Broderick), daughter, Carol Rabideau (Bill), seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by son, Bob McCabe (2007), brothers, Francis McCabe and Matthew McCabe and sister, Rose Rougeaux. He will be lovingly missed.
