Charles was born February 16, 1930 in Columbia, Missouri to Maurice and Catherine Dysart. He graduated from Hickman High School in 1948 then enlisted in the Navy. Upon completion of his service to our country, Charles enrolled at the University of Missouri and graduated in 1957 with a B.S. in Business Administration. Charles married Mary R Harpster in 1955, she preceded him in death.
Charles is survived by his three daughters, Ann Blake (Rhine), Kathy, and Pat, as well as four grandsons and two great grandsons, and one sister. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Charles joined MFA Insurance (now Shelter Insurance) in 1956 as a part time employee in the Auto Division. He then became a full time underwriter in the Fire Division and advanced to the role of assistant manager and manager of that division. He then served as manager of Auto Division before becoming Vice President of Underwriting, then retired in February 1995 as Senior Vice President of Underwriting.
His legacy at Shelter was that he was an effective manager, and a great leader of people who had the respect of fellow employees. He had that exceptional human quality that one needs in business to instill in other employees the same care for the job that he had. He was described by many as a gentleman who knew everyone’s name, spoke to all, never too busy to listen, and was always fair.
Charles loved his family, traveling, bowling, playing golf, and was a huge fan of Missouri football, basketball, and women’s softball. He was a member of University of Missouri-Columbia Friends of Music, the Tiger Scholarship Fund, and the University of Missouri Alumni Association. He was a long time member and deacon of the First Christian Church in Columbia.
