David Edgar Hershberger, age 86, passed from this life to his eternal home in Heaven on December 25, 2020. He was born July 16, 1934, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, to Ralph and Lauretta Hershberger. He was an electrical designer who worked in the defense and aerospace industries for over 35 years. In 2003 David moved to Knoxville, Tennessee. He was a member of New Sevier Home Baptist Church and former member of Meridian Baptist Church where he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher. David enjoyed the years he spent doing mission work in Mexico, and perhaps his greatest passion was serving God in local churches throughout his adult life. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and in recent years hiking in The Great Smoky Mountains and on the trails in and around Knox County.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by first wife Mary Hadley Hershberger; siblings, Ralph Jr. and Tom Hershberger, Patricia Green and Diane McGee, and by great-grandson Christian Ouding.
Survivors include wife of 16 years, Gladys Patterson Hershberger; children, Dave (Peggy) Hershberger Jr. and Andrew (April) Hershberger of Michigan, Heidi (Mark) Brent of Texas, and Kristen (Jesper) Simonsen of Denmark; step-children, Judi Patterson, Jana (Chris) Huddleston, and Jill Patterson, all of Knoxville; grandchildren, Keri (Andy) Jackson, Katie (Mike) Ouding, Samantha (Andrew) Fretwell, Karinna Hershberger, Joy Brent, Thomas and Peter Simonsen, Darby and Gentry Huddleston; and six great-grandchildren.
Due to Covid- 19 concerns, services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meridian Baptist Church, 6513 Chapman Hwy, Knoxville, Tennessee 37920, or New Sevier Home Baptist Church, 1435 Tipton Station Rd, Knoxville, Tennessee 37920.
