Tanya Marie Higdon Rich passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020 in Bossier City, LA at the age of 66. She was born July 12, 1954 in Fairview Heights, IL to Earl James Higdon Sr. and Alma Rose Kniser. She graduated from Northwestern State University as a Registered Nurse in 1997. She worked at Willis Knighton Rehab for 22 years before retiring in July of 2020. She was a caring nurse who treated each patient as her own family.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She loved to go on shopping trips, mainly to the Canton and Allen Outlet Mall Coach Store with her family and friends. She enjoyed crafting and making her many trips to Kirkland’s, Michael’s and Hobby Lobby. She often purchased or made items to gift her family and friends. She was a huge animal lover and adopted many of her dogs from local shelters. Tanya never met a stranger and always talked to everyone with a smile on her face.
Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Melissa Jones and husband T.J. and Christopher Murphy; two grandsons, Tyler Jones and Tripp Jones; brother, Earl James Higdon Jr.; sister-in-law, Yvonne Rich Young; niece, Jena Darling and husband Doug; nephew, Kevin Young and wife Keith; and the father to her two beautiful children, Derriel Rich.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Michael Higdon; and sister, Avalena.
A memorial visitation for Tanya will be held Friday, March 5, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Rd, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. Following the visitation a Memorial Service to celebrate her life will begin at 3:30 PM.
The family would like to express their gratitude to her friends and work family for supporting them during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pet Savers, the Humane Society or any local animal shelter to honor Tanya.
