Claire Irene Munchbach, born in Boston, MA on November 12, 1930, passed away on December 29, 2020, in Norwood, MA. Claire was the beloved wife of the late George Munchbach, Sr. and is survived by her three children: Barbara DiAngelis & her husband William of Roslindale, George Munchbach Jr. and wife Elaine of Norwood, and David Munchbach of Plainville. Claire was affectionately known as “Grammy” to eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of whom adored her dearly. The youngest daughter of Joseph and Viola Homer, Claire and her sisters, Josephine and Grace, grew up in Roslindale, MA -- one street apart from her future husband. After meeting in elementary school, George and Claire married in 1951; George would spend the next six decades lovingly referring to Claire as “his bride.” Claire loved to dance the polka at the Boylston Schul-Verein German Club in Walpole, MA, and was a member of The Ladies German Aid Society for many years. She and George spent their later years as snowbirds, splitting time between Plant City, Florida and Wells, Maine, where Claire made many friends and was a staple of the women’s golf leagues (diligently reporting back her scores to her family after each game!). Claire’s favorite hobbies included reading, bowling, card games, golfing, knitting and spending time with her devoted family, who will miss her incomparable laugh, gentle demeanor, and iron spirit.
Due to COVID restrictions, services will be private and held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Claire’s honor to The Deutsches Altenheim, 2222 Centre St, West Roxbury, MA 02132, https://www.germancentre.org/donate/
