She was born November 19, 1957 in Groton, CT daughter to the late Richard and Patricia (Gray) Brenek. A 1975 graduate of Griswold High School, Deb received her Associate in Arts Degree in Veterinary Assistant in 1977 from Leicester Junior (now Becker) College, spending many years in the veterinary field before her time as an Accounting Clerk for the City of Norwich, Public Works, from which she retired in 2019.
Deb wished to be remembered for her great love of animals and nature. The care she showed to all animals, big and small, hers and others, was a bright light in this world. Deb found happiness in watching hummingbirds at the feeder, deer in the yard, cuddles with her cats, and playing with her dogs. In recent years, she rediscovered her love of horseback riding. Deb studied Reiki healing, with aspirations of becoming involved in holistic veterinary therapies upon her retirement. Following her years with Labradors, she fell in love with the Japanese Chin breed, raising 3 of her own and actively participating in rescue through Luv A Chin. It brings her family comfort to know she is now reunited with those animals she dearly loved that have crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Deb is survived by her only daughter, Amy Jakubielski, her brother Mark (Kelly) Brenek, nieces Kristi Brenek and Amanda (Ashley) Brenek, nephew Jason (Bethanie) Brenek, great-nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. She also leaves behind her beloved dogs, Tally, Bodhi, Jake and her “grand-dog” Charlie, who brought her great comfort in recent months.
Her daughter Amy would like to thank all those who showed Deb such compassionate care and support over the last year – in particular, Dr. Brian Whang and Chris LeSiege at Dana Farber; Dr. Vanessa Johnson and staff at ECHO; Krista, Kate and K.C. at Masonicare; and both Deb and Amy’s dear friends, family, and colleagues.
