Shirley Joan Stinnett, 91, died on 12/29/2020 from complications of Covid-19. She was born on 12/4/1929 to Alvin Cecil and Tina Belle (Smith) Rader in Detroit, MI. She grew up in Charleston, W. VA with her family of five sisters and one brother. She moved back to Detroit where she met the love of her life, James H. Stinnett in high school. They married on May 29, 1949 at her parents’ home. She raised her children and later worked in interior design. She moved to Florida after her children were grown and enjoyed the warm winters for 30 years. She returned to Traverse City in her 80’s to be closer to her children.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, four sisters and her husband. She is survived by her sister, Sue Howard of Lapeer, MI and her four children, James Scott Stinnet (Peggy), Jodi Stinnet (Ray Newman) of Traverse City, MI, Jami Stinnet of Traverse City MI and Kim Katz (Richard) of White Lake, MI. She loved her grandchildren Scott Stinnet, Shannon Kochevar, Robert Newman, Jennifer Daley, Kevin Stinnet and Matthew Newman and all of their spouses as they joined the family. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Noah, Ella, Zoe, Kaylan, Anton, Riley, Nora, Leah, Rory, Olivia, Max, Mason, Clare and Anna.
A private service will be held on 1/3/2021. She will be buried in Sarasota Memorial Gardens next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association, Alzheimsers Association, or the charity of your choice.
