James G. Stine passed away unexpectedly at home on December 31, 2020, at the age of 77. He was the husband of Mary Beth (Forgacs Byrne) Stine and they celebrated 27 years of marriage. Jim was born December 3, 1943 in Joliet, IL, the only child of the late Dorothy (Cramer) and Harold Stine.
Jim graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology with a degree in Architecture and went on to receive a Masters Degree in City Planning from Yale University. He worked as a Planning Officer for the Boston Redevelopment Authority. At De Leuw Cather and Company, he was a member of the team instrumental for the rerouting of the Washington DC beltway to avoid direct urban impact in the city. Jim lived in Allentown PA from the 1970's to 1993, where he was President of Automatic Devices Co. and developed many patented products. A member of the Lower Macungie Township Planning Commission, Jim co-authored "A History of Lower Macungie Township', for which he was recognized by the University of Illinois for the creative planning concepts in the Township and detailed historical and pictorial documentation of the area.
Jim and his wife, Mary Beth, moved from Chicago, IL to Naples, FL, in 1996. The owner of J & J Glass for 19 years, Jim repositioned the company as a premier glass construction company. The company specialized in installing hurricane impact-resistant glass systems in condominiums from Naples to Marco Island. He retired in 2016.
Jim was a Rotarian for almost 50 years. A resident of Marco Island for 16 years, he was a current member of the Rotary Club of Marco Island Noontime. Jim served as Past President of the club, on the Board of Directors, and Co-chair of International Committee. He was the Chair and dedicated advocate for the Rotary Foundation, Rotary International's not-for-profit corporation that transforms donations into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. Jim was passionate about improving peoples' lives in the community and across the globe. He lived the Rotary motto "Service Above Self" and conducted his life and business by the Rotary Four Way Test and principles: Is it the Truth? Is it Fair to all concerned? Will it Build Goodwill and Better Friendships? Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?
Jim was a member of Unity Church of Bonita Springs. He is survived by his Wife, Mary Beth; his daughters Anne E. (Stine), wife of Robert Bavar of Baltimore, MD and Sarah F. (Stine), wife of Michael Bertin of Lafayette Hill, PA; stepsons Tom and Aaron Byrne, IL; grandchildren Benjamin, Amanda, Julia and Jacob; cousins; brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.
