Mrs. Celestine Wiggins Neeson was born in Americus, Georgia on February 11, 1936 to the late Mr. S.L. Wiggins and the late Mrs. Vesta Jones Wiggins. She graduated from Staley High School in Americus in 1954. She initially attended Clark College, but decided to pursue a nursing career and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She retired from Grady Memorial Hospital where she worked for over 20 years in Labor and Delivery, helping to deliver many ‘Grady babies’.
Celestine wed Jimmie (Jimbo) Neeson in October 1990 and together they were a couple that fit hand in glove. She joined Jimbo on his fishing escapades, and he was the beneficiary of many of her wonderful meals. They would laugh with, and at each other, heartily and lovingly. And they both fully embraced the families they married into. She eventually began her studies with the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, attending the Lakewood Congregation.
Celestine was the heart of her Wiggins clan, and her heart was big. Friends and family always enjoyed being around her – she was feel good for your soul. Her home was the gathering place where anybody could drop by at any time to find comfort, relax, laugh out loud, have a home away from home, and of course…enjoy some delicious food. That same aura was also with her whenever she visited others.
If you were near and dear to Celestine, she affectionately referred to you as ‘noont’. And when she called you noont – whether you were her husband, her son, her sibling, in-law, grandchild, niece, nephew or friend – you felt warm all over – because you knew she only used that word for those she loved and respected.
Celestine was preceded in death by her husband Jimbo and her son, Calvin Dwayne Wiggins. She leaves to cherish her memories: one sister Theresa Shields, Seattle Washington, two brothers Graham (Gemima) Wiggins, Roswell, GA and Dobbs (Jackie) Wiggins, Americus, GA, three grandchildren La’Shay Wiggins, Tornear’e Wiggins-Hamblin, and H. Torress Wiggins, five great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends, including lifelong best friend – Dorothy Cobb, and Lakewood Congregation sisters – Jimmie Farley and Luevata Miller.
