Gelber was born on March 14, 1955, and raised in Guatemala City, he resided in Roselle, NJ for the last 25 years.
“On Christmas Eve he was sedated and on a ventilator to aide his breathing. On a day when we would usually shower him with gifts, we gathered around a phone screen as we watched him fall on a deep sleep hoping this will give him time to recuperate. 7 days later on New Year’s Eve we, once again gathered around a phone screen video chat along with our Grand-Mother mother, brothers and sisters and close family as the nurse showed us his last breaths as he lost his battle to COVID-19. All we could do for him, the men who gave everything to us, was to tell him how much we loved him and hope that somehow, he could hear us.”
He was just that type of person that drew others to him, wherever he went he made friends. As a Husband and father, he had endless love for us. One of the most important things a father can do is pass on his best traits. We can only hope that the kindness, compassion, and generosity he showed us over the years remains with us as we mourn his passing and celebrate his life. He instilled the love for soccer to his sons, he enjoyed playing soccer and delighted in watching a good soccer match, especially if his favorite team “FC Barcelona” was playing. He was a traveler at heart and loved to venture to new places, his favorite pass time was long walks on the shore boardwalk.
While he will be sorely missed, his spirit will live on through the many lives he touched and the many wonderful memories he created for family and friends.
