Moana Marie (Silver) Fisher, 54, of Kane'ohe, Hawai'i, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020. After a courageous battle, she succumbed to pulmonary fibrosis secondary to COVID pneumonia. Born October 1, 1966 in Belle Glade, FL, she was the daughter of Dr. James and Regina Silver.
Moana was an extraordinary woman who impacted many lives. Her internal and external strength were always present. She spread aloha wherever she went. Her passion for life was superseded only by her love of family. 'Ohana (family) meant everything to her. Whether a blood relative, hanai’ed (adopted) family member, or friend, all were welcomed. She was a warrior of the highest caliber, fighting valiantly through cancer in 2003, and many other life challenges along her journey. Her strength, love, and beauty were felt by all and will never be forgotten.
As a military dependent, Moana grew up throughout the U.S., attending St. Pius X High School (Albuquerque, NM) and graduating from Redlands High School (Redlands, CA). She earned her degree in Psychology from the University of Hawai'i in 1991. Moana also completed online coursework in 2020 for Theta Healing.
November 8, 1991, Moana married the love of her life, Larry Fisher. The following 29 years became one continuous Aloha Festival of life. Her children were her pride and joy, and they inherited her tenacious strength, creativity, and love. Any mention of them brought an instant smile to her face. Nanea and Kela were born when they lived in Wailuku, Hawai'i; Alana was born soon after the family moved to Las Vegas in 1995. After many years, in 2016 they returned to Hawai'i, which Moana considered home, and Larry transferred with Southwest Airlines.
Moana shared her passion for dancing through choreography, performances, and competitions, particularly for the branch of the renowned Tevakanui-Las Vegas Polynesian dance company, Tevakanui-Hawai'i, which she and Larry opened on O'ahu. As owner and creator of Moana Originals clothing company, her design talents were showcased in gorgeous custom island fashions and designs, such as 'ohana aloha wear and Polynesian dance costumes. She will be remembered fondly as a Hawaiian proud of her aloha 'aina (love of Hawaiian land and culture), an avid learner, and a champion for living life fully. She inspired others to choose a path of purpose, true to one’s self and calling.
Moana is survived by her husband, Larry Fisher; children, Nanea (Javis Lagasca), Kela, and Alana Fisher; father, James Silver; siblings, Maile (Steve) Henson, Greg (April) Silver, Telu (Hector) Ramos, and Jim (Shin) Silver; nieces and nephews, Leiana (Jason) Lane, Deryck Henson, Cody Shields (Samantha Cardwell), Kiana Silver, Kyle Silver, Kara Silver, and Kaden Silver; and many other loving family members. Moana was preceded in death by her mother, Regina (Lover) Silver.
