Barbara Jean Stecker (Hatch), age 79 of Elk River entered Heaven’s gate on December 31, 2020 peacefully in her sleep. Barb was born on June 28, 1941 to William and Dawn (Berset) Hatch in Mpls, MN. Barb graduated from Holy Angels in 1959. She married her high school sweetheart, Roger K. Stecker on June 30, 1962. They raised their four children in Golden Valley, Mn. When they became empty nesters, they moved to a lake home on Boot Lake in Park Rapids, MN. After her loving husband of 50 years passed away August 4, 2012 Barb moved to Elk River to be closer to her family. Barb was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Grams, Nana and GG. She enjoyed entertaining, time with the littles, greeting at church, volunteering at Guardian Angels, playing cards, yard games, and loved the sun! She always made people around her laugh and made friends wherever she went. Her amazing personality, compassionate heart, affectionate hugs, beautiful smile, and contagious laugh will forever be missed but the memories will last forever.
Barb is survived by her four children; Tom (Jan), Paul (Tiffany), Chris (Mitch) Kruger, Joe (Jen), nine grandchildren; Mandi (Andrew) Opdahl, Nick (Lori) Kruger, Sam, Colton, Max, Ashley (Tommy) Mavencamp, Lily, Alyssa (Dylan) Lindenfelser and Anna, six great-grandchildren; Bennett, Easton and Marie Opdahl, Bradley and Curtis Lindenfelser and Zeke Kruger, brother Sandy (Nancy), four nephews, one niece and a bunch of wonderful friends.
The family would like to express their greatest and warmest gratitude to LifeSprks and Heartland Hospice for providing exceptional care to their mother during this past year.
A funeral service celebrating Barb’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday January 11, 2021 at Central Lutheran Church, 1103 School Street NW, Elk River, MN 55330. Mask and social distancing are required.
