Barry McLaurin Joye died on Monday, January 4, 2021. Born in Hemingway, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Wildon M. Joye and Nellie Bazen Joye. He was a graduate of Hemingway High School where he was a star athlete in basketball and baseball, attended North Greenville Junior College, and proudly served in the United State Marine Corps at Lake Lejeune, Morocco, and Cuba.
During his working career, he was a licensed optician in Greenville, South Carolina, and later he had a successful career as a salesperson in the car business. For the last 15 years, he enjoyed working for his son’s contracting business and helped his son establish Joye Roofing.
He enjoyed golf and Clemson football, family trips to the beach, especially traveling to Disney World with his grandchildren, spending time with his dogs, and chauffeuring his grandchildren. Barry Joye loved life and will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
He is survived by his steadfast friend and companion, Suzanne Gosnell Joye; his children, Laurin Brooks and Derek Joye (Donna); his grandchildren, Alexandra Warner (Wes), Kathryn Starnes (Travis), Madelyn Joye, Mary Brooks, Layton Joye and great-grandson, Sullivan Barry Warner; his siblings, Faye Owens, Ron Joye (Debbie) and Kaye Joye and nieces, Ashley Harelson, Erika Joye, and Emily Lovett (Furman). He was predeceased by his brother, Roger Joye.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff on the 8th Floor East at Lexington Medical Center for their compassion and exemplary care.
