Joe was born on September 13, 1932 in Steele, Arkansas to Byrd Monroe Johnson and Minnie Pearl (Wiles) Johnson. In 1951, Joe began his military career in the U.S. Army and continued to serve God and His country for 21 years. He held many positions, earned multiple certificates and awards, and fought in the Korean War, yet he remained humble.
In May 1954, he met the love of his life Evelyn Langford, whom he married on September 1, 1954 and shared 66 wonderful years together. Although gardening, cooking, and fishing were his favorite hobbies, God and family were his top priority. A man of few words, with a lot of personality, showed his love and approval by his actions.
