It is with great sadness that we share that Mr Bhogilal Madhavji Joshi (Nairobi, Kenya; Toronto & Vancouver, Canada) passed away peacefully of natural causes on Monday 04 January 2021 at the age of 97.
He will be immeasurably missed by Devkunvarben, his loving wife of 80 years, 8 children, their spouses, 15 grandchildren, their partners, 13 great grandchildren and his surviving 4 siblings and their families.
Born in Nairobi, Kenya on August 23, 1923, he lived a rich and fulfilling life. He loved to read, and his books were treasures for him. He was fascinated with geography and relished discussions about the travels of family and friends. He had an enquiring mind and continued learning new things throughout his life, including in the past two decades, wholeheartedly adopting the use of new technology. Initially navigating his way through news and information websites on his Apple Mac, he then seamlessly moved on to the iPad, becoming adept at using social media into his 80s and 90s, keeping in contact with family and friends across the world. His value for learning was seen through the keen support he provided to both his sons and daughters to pursue their education at a time when this was not yet common. He was undeniably a man ahead of his time.
He was the epitome of a true gentleman and a shining example of kindness and fairness for both family and community. His home was open to all and everyone was welcomed with warmth, nourishment, and always provided with the gift of chocolate for the journey home.
He leaves behind a legacy of selfless service and support to his wide family and friend circle.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice is welcomed.
Due to the current restriction on public gatherings, there will not be a public service.
