Donald M. Headen passed away January 5, 2021 at the age of 90 in New Braunfels, Texas. He had been struggling with macular degeneration and dementia for the past few years. He was born in East St. Louis, Illinois February 21, 1930 to Ella Beulah Moran and William F. Headen. He was a graduate of Prairie Hill High School and the University of Texas at Austin. After graduating from UT, he enlisted in the Army as a Second Lieutenant and served in the Korean War. Returning to Bellmead, Texas after the war, he started work with General Tire and Rubber Company in Waco, Texas and served in the Army Reserve for 30 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He met and married Dorothy J. Fogle. They had two sons, Donald Gene and Scott Alan. After working at General Tire as a chief accountant, Don took a promotion in 1969 to become Controller of the Tire Division at General Tire's headquarters in Akron, Ohio. He and his family lived in Stow, Ohio until Dorothy passed away in 2000. He was a deacon at Crestview Baptist Church in Stow, Ohio and Timbercrest Baptist Church in Waco, Texas. Then, traveling to San Antonio, Texas to visit with his sisters, he met and married Jacqueline T. Schultz in 2002. Don and Jacqueline, both being retired, travelled extensively all over the world, enjoying the cultures and sights they encountered. Eventually, Don's macular degeneration curtailed their travels, and a few years later, dementia robbed him of the vibrant life he was remembered for.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, his son Scott, his sister Lou and his brother Bob. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline, his son Donald Gene (Margaret) Headen, his daughter-in-law Cindy Headen, Jacqueline's children Kristin (Fred) Wilson, Melissa (Greg) Coman, Andy (Tammera) Schultz, Don's two grandchildren, Jacqueline's eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
