Olivia H. Parks, 76, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at her home. A small service will be held on Sunday, January 10 at Lakewood Funeral Home starting at 1:00 pm in the chapel. Jon McCoy of Christ Methodist Church will be officiating. The service will be streamed via Facebook Live at facebook.com/LakewoodMemorial/
Olivia was born on December 8, 1944 in Ware Shoals, SC. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, godmother and friend. She was loved and well-respected by everyone around her. She always put others’ needs ahead of her own. She will be greatly missed by so many whose lives were made better because she was a part of it. Her family takes great comfort knowing that she is peacefully at rest.
Olivia spent many years as a pharmacist before retirement. Many of her customers counted her as a friend because she took such good care of them. She was a volunteer coordinator for Christ United Methodist Church at Stewpot Community Services and was a member of the Board of Directors at Hope House. She was active in United Methodist Women. In addition to being involved in Sunday School, she enjoyed playing bridge and watching her Dodgers play and win a World Series in 2020. Her three grandchildren brought her much joy. She loved playing card games with her family and her competitive nature was contagious. She loved traveling with family, friends, or whoever was willing to go on an adventure with her, and if the travels included a visit to an art museum, even better.
Olivia is preceded in death by her loving husband, Bruce. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Nannette Mullinax.
She is survived by her children, Trey Parks of New Cumberland, PA, and Grace Parks Parmley and her husband Loren Parmley of Madison, MS. She is also survived by her grandchildren, James Parmley, Anna Grace Parmley, and Joseph Parmley, also of Madison, MS. And she is survived by her siblings, Annette Morrah of Walhalla, SC and Jones Herring, of Columbia, SC.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask for donations to either Stewpot Community Service, Inc., P.O. Box 3610, Jackson, MS 39207, or Hope House of Hospitality, 786 East Northside Drive, Jackson, MS 39206. Olivia did a lot for both places and would want her memory honored that way.
