He was born on October 3, 1956, in Seattle, Washington at Fort Lawton Army Base, to Eubaldo and Jesusita (Silva) Ponce. Carlos was a 1974 graduate of Rio Grande City High School in Rio Grande City, Texas, where he played trumpet in the band, played tennis, and wrote for the school newspaper. Carlos went on to attend Texas Tech, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Science. He continued to bleed Texas Tech red and black throughout his life, as a die-hard fan! In addition to being a Tech fan, he was also a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan. Carlos was considered a foodie and was an avid coupon clipper.
Carlos was employed with MCI & Time Warner. In his spare time, he was a professional photographer and utilized his gift of photography at various churches. Carlos attended two churches over the years and cherished the fellowship at each of them, one being Emanu-El United Methodist Church in Dallas and most recently attended Holy Covenant UMC in Carrollton. His love for the church and love for God overflowed into all of his life – he was a goodhearted, loyal and a sweet man, who put others before himself. Carlos adored his family and valued his time spent with them. He genuinely loved life and appreciated each day. His sense of gratefulness for everything in life gave him a true contentment that others search a whole lifetime. Carlos will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Rev. Eubaldo T. Ponce. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his mother, Jesusita Ponce of Frisco; brother, Jimmy (Rebecca) Ponce of Lubbock; sisters, Deborah Gonzalez of Dallas and Rebecka (Sina) Hekmat of Westport, CT; nieces, Patricia (Matthew) Walker of Lubbock, Priscilla (Daniel) Escobedo of Wichita Falls; Ashley of Lubbock, Sophie Hekmat and Isabelle Hekmat, both of Westport, CT; former wife and friend, Monica Carillo of Dallas; dear friend, Jenny Gutierrez of Irving and many friends.
