Laurie Lee Burnes, age 69, of Germantown, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 7, 2021. She was the wife of Hilton Jonas Burnes, and together, they shared 47 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Laurie attended Overton High School and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, majoring in Public Relations with a minor in French. She is a proud alumna of Sigma Kappa Sorority. Laurie was an active member of Bellevue Baptist Church. She enjoyed Tennessee football and basketball, her dogs, her family’s horses, and traveling with her friends. She was a breast cancer and uterine cancer survivor, and volunteered with Flying Colors and other organizations and clinics to help others fighting cancer. Above all, she was an incredible wife, mom, and Mimi.
Laurie is survived by her husband, Hilton Jonas; mother, Louise Lawless Lee; daughters, Brooke Stover (Luke) and Whitney Burnes (Dustin Geer); grandchildren, Schaefer Elizabeth, Camryn Kristian, Preston Luke, Harlee Avery Caroline, Maci Amelia, and Olivia Brooke; brother, Wally Lee (Monica), of Alexandria, Virginia; nephew Wyatt Lee (Elizabeth), of Baltimore, Maryland; and niece Katherine Lee, of Rockville, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter “Dee” Hobbs Lee, Sr.
A memorial service will be held at Bellevue Baptist Church at a future date when it is safe for everyone to attend and celebrate Laurie's life.
