Johnny Ray Kornegay, age 69, of Cottondale, Alabama, passed away at home on January 10, 2021. Johnny was a man of many talents. He could build or repair almost anything. If he didn't know how to do something, it wouldn't take him long to learn the skill. During his life, he worked at Gulf States Paper Mill and Drummond Coal Company. He opened his own business, Crimson Air, Inc., a successful heating and cooling company.
Johnny enjoyed using his knowledge and skills to help others. He loved his family and friends immensely and was happiest when he used his tractor to help them. Even after a cancer diagnosis and a bone marrow transplant, he did everything he could to make life better for his family.
Johnny will be greatly missed. Those who knew him consider themselves blessed and are thankful for the time we had with him. We know that he is rejoicing in Heaven with loved ones who were waiting for him to arrive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Inez Kornegay. He is survived by his wife, Letitia Bush Kornegay of Cottondale, Alabama; daughters, Kay Kay Criss (Ronnie) of Brookwood, Alabama, and Rachel Hoyle (Steve) of Millersville, Maryland; son, Paul Graves (Lindsay) of Ralph, Alabama; grandchildren, Clay Criss (Meagan), Kalli Criss New (Caleb), Kason Criss, Emily Criss, Erica Criss, Lincoln Blackwell, Claire Hoyle, Carson Blackwell, Ashlyn Blackwell, Breanna Graves, Juliet Graves, Anastasia Graves, and Aubree Graves; brother, Larry Kornegay (Paulette) of Brookwood, Alabama; several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
The family wishes to thank the Bone Marrow Transplant Team at UAB and Hospice of West Alabama for the extraordinary care.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Brookwood, Alabama with Rev. Gary Youngblood to officiate. Honorary pallbearers are Rod Donaldson, Darrel Birl, Charlie Williams and Ecolio Rodriguez.
