Thomas was born to Robert and Pansy Simpson of Johns Island, South Carolina. Tom was a man of God who devoted his life to serving others and ensuring that everyone he met had an opportunity to hear about the love of God. In 1971 Tom continued in his fathers footsteps and joined the United States Navy. Tom devoted a 20 year career to the navy as a Hospital Corpsman before retiring in 1991. Tom immediately continued in a devotion of public service by becoming a Paramedic in New Hanover County. Tom served the community of New Hanover County as a full time Paramedic for 25 years, while commonly volunteering in neighboring counties to ensure that their needs were met.
In 2015 Tom retired from New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Tom continued to service the area even in retirement by volunteering at several area ministries including the Lighthouse Church food pantry and the Gateway Community Church food bank. In 2018 Tom began studies at the Christian Leaders Institute and fulfilled his dream of becoming a minister. Tom had a lifetime of accomplishments, but ask him to pick his greatest and you would find that what he consider finding a godly woman to spend the last 47 years with, and raising three godly children was by far his proudest accomplishment.
Tom will be missed by the countless lives that he touched but the family rejoices knowing that Tom was greeted at heavens gate by God who undoubtably wrapped his arms around Tom and proclaimed, My son you have done me proud.
Tom is survived by his wife Debbie Simpson, daughters Angela Hodge, Faith Perritte, son Robert Simpson, son in-laws Robert Hodge, Daniel Perritte, daughter-in-law Laurianne Simpson, grandchildren Ruth Hodge, Esther Hodge, Colton Simpson.
