Cecil was born in Great Falls, Montana to Arthur and Ruth Beckstrom. He was raised on the family cattle ranch on Beckstrom Road, south of the town of Belt. He attended school with other local children in a one room schoolhouse on the ranch before attending Belt High School and Great Falls High School. He attended the University of Montana, but his time there was cut short by the Korean War. Cecil joined the Navy, and was stationed in Japan and San Francisco. After completing his service, he returned to Belt and took over the operation of the family cattle ranch until it was sold in 1987. He continued to manage other ranches until his retirement.
In 1966 he married Bonnie Boyer and raised a family. In 1992 he joined Bonnie at her business, Kaleidoscope Art Glass, which provided windows for many churches, businesses and schools throughout Montana. In 2009 they sold the business to move to Portland, Oregon to be near their sons and granddaughter.
Cecil is survived by his wife Bonnie Beckstrom (Boyer), sons Lance Beckstrom and Ross Beckstrom, and granddaughter Pandora Ruth Beckstrom. He is also survived by his sister Janet Berger of Billings, Montana, and brother Darrell Beckstrom of Helena, Montana.
Burial services with honors were provided for family only at Willamette National Cemetery on January 21st.
