Carrie was born on August 18, 1972 in Oscoda, Michigan, the third child of Colonel Dennis Dale Carpenter and Constance Star Carpenter. Carrie is survived by her three children, whom she loved whole-heartedly: Alix and Samantha Van Sickle of San Antonio, Texas and Donovan Appelbaum of Austin, Texas.
An Air Force brat, Carrie grew up on military bases in Michigan, Louisiana, Alabama, Texas, North Carolina, Nebraska, and Panama.
Carrie graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a degree in Elementary Education. She went on to teach elementary school, often in special education settings, in Wilmington, North Carolina; Anderson, South Carolina; Atlanta, Georgia; and San Antonio, Texas. She had a natural ability to engage and connect with students and co-workers.
A natural raconteur, Carrie had a warm and friendly personality. She leaves a trail of friends and fans from every stage of her life. She loved a good book, an outdoor patio, live music, and good company.
In addition to her children, Carrie is survived by her parents, Colonel Dennis and Connie Carpenter of Wilmington, North Carolina; her siblings, Amy (Charles) Bullock of Wilmington, North Carolina, Dennis Carpenter (Gary Gilbert) of Phoenix, Arizona, and Ben (Tessy) Carpenter of Missouri City, Texas; nieces and nephew, Madeline, Emily, and Erin Bullock and Eve and Calvin Carpenter; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, countless friends, and former students.
