Florence was born November 3, 1927 in Long Island NY to Leonard and Mabel Boose. As a child she lived through the Great Depression and WWII, living in New York City and upstate NY with her family, including her brother, Robert, and sister, Ruth. In 1946 she married Albert Pat Carl and moved to Sidney NY where she gave birth to a son, Dow Jay, and daughter, Patricia. Florence and Pat separated, and Florence moved to Washington DC where she took a job in a dental office. In 1960, Florence met Evan Aptaker. They married and moved to Rochester NY where Florence gave birth to her son, Robert Aptaker. The family moved to Dallas TX in 1966. Florence and Evan separated in 1970. Florence took a job at Texas Instruments where she worked for 15 years before she retired and moved to San Antonio TX to live with her sister Ruth and her niece Leslie. In 2018, Florence moved to Hillcrest Royale Retirement Community in Thousand Oaks to be closer to her son Robert, daughter Patricia, and her grandchildren.
Florence’s passions were her family and her church. Her favorite saying was “Love is like a potbelly stove; it warms everyone around it.” Florence made friends easily, and continued to make new friends all of her life. She exuded love for her family and friends, and she was kind to strangers.
Remarkably, she was fully independent until she was almost 90, living on her own, driving to the grocery store, the mall, and McDonald’s, and taking care of her household.
Florence was a life-long Christian Scientist. As a child, she attended Sunday School at First Church of Christ Scientist in Manhattan. In Dallas, she was a member of Third Church of Christ Scientist, and in San Antonio, she was a member of Third Church of Christ Scientist where she worked in the Reading Room until 2018.
Florence is survived by her son and daughter (Robert and Patricia), her grandchildren (Emily, Grant, Devan, Kinny and Chelsea), great grandchild (Joshua), her nieces and nephews (Robert, David, Diane), and their children (Alexa, Nicole, Benjamin, Annie, Frederick, Max and Simon).
A memorial service will be held at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village CA.
