Elisabeth Schirmann, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Port Orange, Florida, on January 9. She was born in Despot Swety Ivan, Yugoslavia to the late Florian and Susanna (Wolf) Horwath. Elisabeth immigrated to the United States from Linz, Austria in 1956 with her husband, Konrad, and their very young daughter Renate. After becoming a U.S. citizen in 1961 and raising her family in Muskegon, MI, she moved to Port Orange, FL with her husband in 1983. Elisabeth was a seamstress and homemaker that enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, and baking. She is fondly remembered for her delicious cookies and cakes. Some of her favorite moments involved caring for (and playing with) young children, especially her 5 grandchildren who will always remember their “Oma”.
Elisabeth is lovingly survived by her husband of 67 years, Konrad; daughter Renate (Mike) Strothmann of Norton Shores MI; son Robert (Linda) Schirmann of Troy, OH; son Ernest (Denise) Schirmann of Lake Zurich, IL; grandchildren Michael Schirmann, Kyle Schirmann, Greta Schirmann, Katie Schirmann, and Matt Schirmann; sister Maria Auerbach; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 7 brothers and sisters, Florian Horwath, Adam Horwath, Friedrich Horwath, Kathe Jung, Theresia Seiler, Anna Gensinger, and Peter Horwath.
