Barbara Jane Pierce, 71, passed away suddenly on January 10, 2020 in Columbus, Ohio. She was born on July 16, 1949, in Whittier, California to the late Virgil and Lora (Martin) Smith and dreamed of becoming an anthropologist. After being a supportive military spouse for more than 20 years and being stationed in Japan, North Carolina, Virginia, and California with her former husband, Robert Denison, Jane was called to the ministry, graduated from Trinity Lutheran Seminary, and served parishes in Nebraska and Ohio before retiring. Like her mother, Jane was a talented artist and loved painting. She was creative, smart, outgoing, and taught her children the value of serving others. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her first husband who passed away only a few short weeks before. She is survived by her husband, Walt Pierce and her son, Michael, and daughter, Sarah, and their families including four grandchildren as well as her siblings Lora Lee, Robert, and Jack. Barbara’s family is heartbroken by her loss but hope that she has found peace in the hands of her creator.
