On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, Jose “Joe” R. Gutierrez died peacefully in his home at the age of 92. He was born on September 16, 1928 in Goforth, Texas to Luis Gutierrez and Trinidad Rangel Gutierrez. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Force.
Joe’s strong work ethic led him to many jobs over the years to provide for his growing family. He had a knack for repairing small engines and was a skilled groundsman. He was a devoted husband and father who made everyone that knew him feel like part of the family. He will be remembered for his faith, generosity, and sense of humor.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Pablo Gutierrez and Louis Gutierrez; sister, Jovita Gutierrez Galicia, and his wife of 62 years, Estanislada Garza Gutierrez. He is survived by his 12 children, Armando (Karen) Gutierrez, Arnoldo (Debbie) Gutierrez, Adela (Jerry) Barker, Arnulfo (Mary) Gutierrez, Alfonso (Maria) Gutierrez, Adelina (David) Sanchez, Argentina (Efrain) Rangel, Alonso (Judy) Gutierrez, Alejandro (Ivonne) Gutierrez, Alfredo (Lisa Vela) Gutierrez, Alberto (Laura) Gutierrez, Abel (Belinda) Gutierrez; 29 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
A private Rosary and Funeral Mass for the family will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Pilar Catholic Church. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, those outside the immediate family are invited to join the service via live stream on the Facebook page for Funeraria Del Angel at 549 Cheyenne.
