Robert “Bob” Alan Servetter, 62, died on January 11, 2021 at his home in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida. Bob was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 12, 1958 the youngest son of Leonard N. Servetter and Gilda F. Servetter. He graduated from Hilltop High School in Chula Vista, California in 1976 and, marching to the beat of his own drum, put on a backpack and set off for a year-long adventure to Israel and Europe. Later he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management and Marketing from Sonoma State University and his Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from National University.
Bob was always passionate about travel and visited 46 countries, making many friends along the way. His travels in SouthEast Asia led him to Fukuoka, Japan where he met and married Kumi Tsunawaki and had his daughter, Hannah. They lived between Fukuoka and San Diego off and on for 16 years, and they raised Hannah to be bilingual and bicultural. After his divorce, Bob met Miho Umigane and, after a 5 year courtship, they married in Grenada on October 1, 2015. They eventually settled in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida in 2016, where the two of them have hosted many guests from around the world at their Indian Rocks Beach Suites.
Professionally Bob was above all a teacher, opening several English schools in Japan as well as becoming a lecturer of English at the University of Fukuoka and Seinan University. Being a natural born entrepreneur, he dabbled in many different ventures, including a bike-touring service in Bali, Indonesia. In his travels he also helped people by working on a Kibbutz in Israel, chefing, tutoring and being a sommelier in-training.
Bob was a member of Men’s Divisions International for many years. He joined this organization to grow and become a better man, father, husband, son, sibling, and friend. Not only did he succeed in bettering himself, he mentored many others to do the same.
His true talent was making friends all around the world, maintaining these friendships, and keeping people connected to each other. He loved to cook, dance, listen to music, make pottery, and drink nice wines with chocolates. He also had a passion for landscaping and was gifted with a green thumb. Wherever he lived, he used his creativity to beautify his home and property. It was while he was building a deck that he suddenly and unexpectedly died from ventricular fibrillation.
Above all Bob loved his family and friends with all of his heart.
Bob is survived by his wife, Miho Umigane, daughter, Hannah Servetter, mother Gilda Servetter, twin brothers David and Dennis Servetter, sister Suellen Lussier, sister-in-law Miriam Servetter, brother-in-law Ronald Lussier and nephews, Sam and Shani Servetter and many great-nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Leonard N. Servetter.
In giving Bob the last word, he would say to you all: “TLLM (talk less, listen more), strive for inner peace, and build loving relationships”.
