Ronald Samuel Juster, born July 3, 1943, passed away peacefully in his home in West Orange, NJ on January 12, 2021. He was survived by his wife, Elaine, his children, Alex and Josh, and his grandchildren, Gemma, Casey, and Logan. Ron and Elaine were married for over 40 years, although he failed to impress Elaine on their first date. He finally won her over after a chance encounter ten years later.
Ron had a humble upbringing in Bayside, Queens, raised by his late parents, Sol and Carmela. He graduated from the New York Institute of Technology with a degree in Biomedical Engineering, then he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he worked at Natick Labs building parts for Apollo space missions.
Unsatisfied with the slow pace of research, Ron decided to put his math skills to work on Wall Street. Having started in the literal mailroom, Ron, known affectionately as “Jesse” on the street, worked his way up to become a bond trader and Managing Director. He built and ran government agency trading desks at some of the world’s most prestigious firms, including Morgan Stanley, Salomon Brothers, Lehman Brothers, and J.P. Morgan. He was truly in his element on the trading floor.
Ron loved all things outdoors and you could often find him on a lake fishing for bass and sunnies, or woodworking in his workshop. He was an avid collector, beginning with his childhood hobby of coin and stamp collecting, growing into his love for antiquing and art collecting. He built up a large collection of Audubon prints that he later donated to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Nassau County Museum of Art.
Most importantly, Ron will be remembered for his kind heart, strong moral compass, and his knack for jokes and pranks. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who cared about their happiness above all else.
