Jean, as she was called, was born on April 28, 1926 in Palco, Kansas. Jean grew up in a closely knit farm family of ten children. At age 18, after graduating from high school, she travelled to Portland, Oregon to help her sister with a new baby. Jean stayed in Portland, going to work at Sears in the Lamp Department where she met her future husband Lawrence David Kay. They married in 1947 and had a son in 1950.
Jean worked in partnership with her husband in construction and building management. By the mid-sixties they were active in a successful real estate business. They loved vacationing in Hawaii and later at Cannon Beach.
Jean was a long-time active member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Beaverton, Oregon. At her retirement, Jean volunteered at St. Vincent Hospital. She loved volunteering and after more than 25 years she had many friends among the volunteer group.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years. She is survived by her son as well as numerous nieces, nephews and close friends who will remember her with great affection.
No service will be held and interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery. A mass will be said in Jean’s honor at St Cecilia Catholic Church. The family is grateful for the caregivers from Visiting Angels who spent time with her in her last days. The family will greatly appreciate donations in Jean’s name to St. Cecilia School and St. Vincent Hospital Foundation.
