Born June 30, 1936 in North Vernon, IN, most of her school years were spent in Seymour, IN where her father was a high school basketball Coach and Jr. High administrator. Lovingly known as “Babe” she excelled in cheerleading, diving as well as her scholastic pursuits.
After high school Monaei attended MacMurray Women’s College in Jacksonville, IL.
Monaei loved basketball coming from a basketball family. She married Max Lee Perry Sr. in August of 1957. Max’s college basketball career would take Monaei to Logan, Utah as Max starred for the Utah State Aggies and Monaei cared for their two young boys and cheered the Aggies. Monaei continued her love affair with family and basketball as Max became a varsity basketball Coach in Indiana. Monaei was a mother figure to all of Max’s teams.
Monaei had her longest career at Hanover College where she was a secretary in the admissions department for 24 years until her retirement in 2002. She loved the comradery she enjoyed both with staff and the students.
Monaei and Max moved to Raleigh, NC in 2002 to be near their two boys and their grandkids.
She is preceded in death by her father, C.H.(Shrimp) Englehardt and mother, Martha Belle (Wilson) Englehardt, brother Dan Wilson Englehardt and the love of her life, husband Max Lee Perry Sr.
Monaei is survived by her two sons Max Lee Perry Jr (Karlene) of Raleigh, NC and Martin L Perry (Janine) of Raleigh NC and five grandkids: Max Lee Perry III (Nicole), Gregory Kloepfer Perry (Jazmin), Allyse Marie Perry Pixton (Rob), Robert Martin Perry (Audrey) and Logan Witt Perry. She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren: Leighton, Max, Karter, Koko, Robbie, Ollie, Josie and Wyatt.
She leaves behind a loving family and friends who will never forget her importance in their lives.
There will be visitation hours Tuesday Sept. 7th from 3-5 p.m. at the Brown Wynne Funeral Home located at 1701 East Millbrook Road. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
Monaei will be interred in Columbus, IN in Garland Brook Cemetery with her husband Max.
