Margaret Renee’ Skrak Hassan was born on June 5, 1935 to the late Michael and Luba (nee’ Zgyner) in Nanty Glo, Pennsylvania.
Margaret, along with her late sister, Luba (Raboy) graduated the Mt. Sinai (NYC) School of Nursing in 1956. Margaret practiced in New York, California, Virginia, and Maryland, but worked at George Washington University Hospital in the District of Columbia for over 40 years as a perioperative (scrub) nurse, winning many awards for her expertise, calm demeanor, and exemplary professional practice. She also worked in a number of private medical practices in the DC metro area, which included obstetrics and gynecology.. Margaret traveled the world but always spent 1 week of the summer with her eldest niece, Catharine, and her family at the Atlantic shore. On November 18, 2000, Margaret married the love of her life, the late Capt. (Ret) USN Kamel (Kam) James Hassan, MD, Chief of Anesthesiology at Boston Children’s Hospital, at St. Thomas More Cathedral. Margaret peacefully passed at home with her niece Dede and John her husband on Saturday morning, June 13th.
Margaret was predeceased by her siblings Michael (Jean), Catharine Davis (William), Mary, Josephine (Jo), Anna, Luba Raboy (Bertram), and her nephew Robert (Bobby) Skrak. Margaret is survived by her sister Pauline Roberts (Geoffrey), her nieces Catharine Davis Rohe, Margo Roberts, Jill Roberts, Barbara Skrak Shields, Judy Raboy, and her nephews William Davis, Michael Davis, Michael Skrak, Paul Skrak, James (Jimmy) Skrak, as well as many grandnieces and grandnephews and their children.
