Kathleen Stockwell went home to be with the Lord Thursday, November 9, 2017. She was born in Jackson, Michigan, February 27, 1919, the daughter of Lloyd J. Lockwood and Gertrude (Gregory) Lockwood. She grew up in Ann Arbor and attended Michigan State University in East Lansing. She became a high school English teacher; her first teaching assignment was in Hartford, Michigan where she met and married her husband, Roy A. Stockwell, Jr. They married on June 4, 1943 and moved to Chicago, Illinois where Roy taught as a civilian in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. After the war they moved to Bensenville, Illinois and Kathleen was an elementary teacher in the Bensenville School District teaching fourth and sixth grades. Her husband, Roy, worked as a Radio Operator with the Illinois State Police for 25 years. They retired in 1974 and returned to Hartford. Roy passed away in 1983, and Kathleen remained in Hartford until she moved to Harker Heights and then Temple, Texas to live near her daughter, Shirley Best. Kathleen had strong faith in Christ and was very active in the Hartford Federated Church. She was loved by many people. Kathleen was well known for her helping hand, her sense of humor, a sweet personality and her ready smile. She loved to read, sew, knit, paint and garden.
Kathleen is survived by one daughter, Shirley Best and a son-in-law, Louis Best of Harker Heights, Texas, a grandson, Philip Best, of St. Louis, a granddaughter, Deborah Best, of St. Louis, four great grandchildren and many cousins and friends.
A 10:00 A.M. Graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hartford, Michigan.
